Why we love Fleur

With glossy green and red hues and curvaceous leaves, Fleur brings the drama. She’s a real showstopper.

  • Fleur likes...
    • Medium light

Fleur will thrive in a spot with bright, indirect light. She’d prefer to be away from direct sunshine.

    • Light watering

She’s very easy to water. Simply give her a drink once the top two inches of her soil begin to feel dry.

    • Humidity

Anthuriums are generally found in rainforests, so Fleur is a big fan of humidity. A bathroom or kitchen would be the perfect home for her.

Anthuriums are seriously pretty. The bright red bits are this plant’s stand-out feature. They’re commonly mistaken for flowers, but they’re actually called ‘spathes’. They’re essentially a type of colourful leaf that helps to attract insects. This particular anthurium looks similar to our popular Fleur, but has curvier, narrower spathes that flick upwards. It’s very fancy.

Despite their dramatic appearance, anthuriums are actually very laid back and easy to care for. In the wild, you’ll find them hanging out in rainforests, where they love the dappled light, warm temperatures and lots of humidity. If you can mirror these conditions at home, they’ll thrive.

To keep your plant happy, place it in a warm spot away from direct sunshine. A bright room away from a window would be perfect. This plant will appreciate a feed with liquid fertiliser once per month in spring and summer.

Dramatic in name and nature, ‘mille fleurs roja’ translates to ‘million flowers red’.
