If the top two inches of soil feel dry and Walter’s leaves are starting to droop, it’s time for a drink.

    • Most light conditions

Walter will be happiest in a bright room away from the window, but he can also tolerate a shadier spot.

  • With its pointed ornamental leaves and luscious foliage, a schismatoglottis wallichii is an easy way to bring a bit of the jungle into your home. This plant might originate from the rainforests of Thailand, Borneo and Malaysia, but it will live quite happily in your home.

You’ll know when your schismatoglottis wallichii needs a drink because the leaves will start to droop and the top two inches of soil will feel dry. Don’t worry, once it’s had a top up of water, the leaves will quickly bounce back. Like many jungle plants, a schismatoglottis wallichii will enjoy bright, indirect light - like a spot away from the window in a sunny room, or behind a sheer curtain.

Give your schismatoglottis wallichii a boost in spring and summer with a monthly dose of diluted liquid fertiliser and encourage year-round growth by cleaning the leaves with a damp cloth so it can absorb plenty of light.

    Did you know?

In the wild, schismatoglottis wallichii grow on the jungle floor - watch your step!
