• About tradescantia zebrina

  With its iridescent sparkly striped leaves, the tradescantia ‘Zebrina’ - or silver inch plant - truly is out of this world. Fast-growing, easy to look after and full of style, this might just be the perfect beginner plant. This plant will be trailing happily from your shelves in no time, and if you spot any dying stems or leaves you can just pinch them off - they’ll soon grow back. Think your tradescantia is looking a bit long? Just trim it with clean shears to whatever length you like, it won’t mind.

  Originally from Central America and Mexico, this tradescantia will quite happily be left to its own devices. Its beautiful leaves will grow best in bright, indirect light but it will tolerate some shade. If the leaves start to look dull, faded or crispy then check the soil. You might find it’s a bit too dry, so give it a good drink and let the water drain through.

  To give your plant a boost, feed it with diluted liquid fertiliser once a month in spring and summer.
