Add colour, flavour and medicinal benefits to your drinks party. Pick fresh sprigs of basil, mint or borage and let their properties infuse. To get your seeds going, scatter a thin layer onto damp but well drained soil and cover with a clear propagator lid, pane of glass or seal your seed tray/pot in a plastic bag. This keeps the humidity up and can be removed once the seeds have germinated. Sow them indoors anytime between February and June. Prick them out and pot them into individual pots to grow on before planting them out into your pots or the garden once they’re established plants. Keep them well watered until established. While mint will keep going year after year, the basil and borage will self-seed before dying back each winter.
